5/13/2018 0 Comments the right timingHello again! This week was specifically focused on attempting to perfect my Freestyle Relay Start. This is a lot different than a lot of the other dives because it's necessary to have another swimmer to complete the dive. So not only is team work incorporated, but also getting the "right timing" down. This will be demonstrated in later videos.
Not only was this week a lot more different than the others, but it was also a lot more difficult. I already had to find individual time with Coach Jo to specifically work on this, but I then also had to find someone else to practice with me. To be a little bit more clear, a relay start is what a swimmer is recommended to do in a relay event. A relay event consists of four people each individually swimming for the overall wellness of the group, kind of like track but in water. Instead of passing the baton, all the swimmer has to do is touch the wall. Although, this takes just the right timing from the swimmer that is about to race. They have to pace the swimmer before them in order to jump off the block without any hesitation or even a lapse in time. This not only takes experience, but also a lot of skill. Personally, this was one of the hardest dives to become skilled in. Much of this week was just continuously trying to make sure I knew when I needed to start getting ready to dive, learning how to pace the swimmer, and making sure I didn't leave too early or too late which could cause disqualification.
