Much of this week was very similar in the fact that I'm taking all that I've learned throughout the last seven weeks and trying my best to make last-minute critiques to my dives. Last week, I focused on getting down my final improvements on my freestyle start. This week, I focused on "Taking it Back" with backstroke and figuring out what exactly I need to do to get the closest possible to a perfect backstroke start.
Like I stated previously, much of this week was very similar to last week. My "Additional Exercise" portion that is included in the "Weekly Times" listed below consists greatly of practicing my actual dive. Backstroke dives are unlike anything else, which is why I think I had the most trouble with them. In order for a swimmer's backstroke dive to be effect, they must bring their knees up out of the water, pull up with their arms, then push and arch their back once the event starts. Like where most of my problems are rooted, I had trouble pushing off forcefully with my legs. A positive aspect that I do have when referencing this type of dive though is my upper body strength. When you pull yourself up in order to later arch your back, you have to pull most of your body out of the water and eventually swing your arms back above your head to gain distance in the pool. My coach said i had improved on this subject more than anything else. Click below to see two short clips of my backstroke starts from this week, along with the weekly times.
