This week, my coach and I came together and agreed that in addition to the work I've done on this specific dive, I needed to incorporate sprints into my practice. In the convergence of these two things, I expected to see a drop in my overall time at the end of the week.
Much of my additional practice from this week is just like the additional practice from the last two weeks, which is actually practicing the dives instead of any running/push-ups/crunches. The sprinting sets that I was assigned to do consisted of many 50s (two laps, one down and one back) and occasionally 100s (four laps, two down and two back). One drill that was new to me included a lot of kicking, which helps with the force behind my push off the block. This drill required me to hold onto the side of the wall with two hands, floating on my stomach, kicking as hard as I could for 60 seconds, and then sprinting a 50. I did this ten different times. After that, I did the same thing but instead of swimming a 50, I swam a 100, and only did five rounds. I did the entire set twice. It looked a little something like this: 10*50s - kick 60 seconds, 45 seconds for sprint (1:50) 5*100s - kick for 60 seconds, 1 minute 30 seconds for sprint (2:30) 10*50s - kick for 60 seconds, 45 seconds for sprint (1:50) 5*100s - kick for 60 seconds, 1 minute 30 seconds for sprint (2:30) Thank you all for checking back in, and I hope you continue to follow me throughout the next few weeks!
